Wedding Wednesday: Random Whites

A unique sleeved and collared wedding dress.  I love it because it's reminiscent of something slightly  colonial and you don't see something like this very often.  It's also modest!
Seen here.

These paper lace envelopes also recall a bygone, once romantic era.
It's a DIY seen here.

Although paper lace is more Victorian and the dress more colonial I think they both sort of work together in a historic sense.  They both recall forgotten details of another historical era.

Wedding Wednesday: Giant Flowers Edition

I've mentioned before what a sucker I am for paper flowers.
For my wedding I dreamed of making lots and lots of paper flowers, giant ones everywhere.  Unfortunately reality intervened and we ended up putting together our wedding in 30 days!  I wouldn't trade it for anything but I have always been left with a lingering thought of "What would it have looked like?"
I think it would've looked a little like this wedding!

These giant paper poppies were actually on a Martha Stewart segment that I've posted about before.

Flower Friday! Coffee Filter Flower Edition

Coffee filters, both basket and cone style, are among the most unassuming of materials.
If you're a paper or fiber lover like I am you might have gazed longingly at the texture, feeling it in your hands, wondering if there could be a more elevated use for something so mundane yet having so much potential (the texture!)
Well there is, and it occurred to me that others thought the same way, what with the wide variety of coffee filter flower tutorials available.

Flower Friday!

If you make enough flowers, or do enough flower making tutorials, it almost gets to the point where you can tell how a flower was made just by looking at it.  I think some of the best handmade flowers are the ones that keep you guessing how they were made.
Here's to some flowers made of techniques or materials I haven't really featured here:

Images from my blog reader: paper heart garland + birds

Every now and then images from my blog reader stand out to me.  Usually they are from very different sources that have nothing to do with each other and make me do a double take.
These stood out because of their similar colors!

Wedding Wednesday: Gaga for Garlands

Garlands seem to be a huge trend in blogland and it's easy to see why.
Few things can fill up otherwise empty space overhead so strikingly.  Some people might even say it's sinful to leave so much space empty and undecorated when you can make something beautiful and colorful to fill it up.
Most of them look so downright mouthwatering that it will leave you gaga for more.  The best part is that even without a helpful tutorial, with a little imagination and ingenuity you could make all of them yourself.  Hanging them is another story...

and fringed garland via here.

A color bursting fabric garland that you can make yourself here.
Another easy garland that is uniquely fluffy.  Learn how to make this one too here.

With so much color being incorporated into weddings you don't even have to settle for the accordion tissue paper garlands!  Although if you have those old fashioned paper garlands, here's something new you can do with them.

Flower Friday!

In an attempt to add variety I took a break from posting so many paper flowers but this edition is, again, paper flowers.

Flower Friday!

This edition of Flower Friday features a few of my favorites from Marthie!  And of course Marthie is the mother lode of "tutes" so click all the sources as always and don't forget to give your favorites a try, enjoy!

More paper flowers

I'm trying to make Flower Friday a regular thing because I love all sorts of lovely flowers and hopefully link to some tutorials too.  I think so far both posts have been about paper flowers but I hope to include all sorts of handmade flowers from all kinds of materials.

I can't seem to find a working link to this image so I can't link to the exact source but I found it through an image search.
EDIT**  I found a working link!

Paper flowers are my secret obsession

I secretly wish I was a paper flower artist because paper + flowers seriously makes me drool.
